this year...

new year's is feeling a bit like valentine's with so many bitter post out there "here we go with all this new year new me bullshit", "f new year's it's just another day"...just to name a few! what's wrong people, what's with all the negativity? i get it, we shouldn't have wait til the 1st of january to better ourselves or make changes; that should be done all year round. but good lord no need to be so bitter, jeez let the people live! i personally love the fresh feel of a new year, it's a great time to recap where you've been and where you want to go...it's a little marker in life to check yourself. hell you even get to throw out calendars and planners so it really does feel like a fresh start. with that it's time for my wish list for 2014, i love lists!

  1. step away from the cellphone! i'll admit it i'm a cell phone junkie, a social butterfly who needs rehab...i'm addicted to my phone. i'm going to try (this is a key word, because i can't make any promises) to not have my cell phone out while engaging in face to face conversations with others, my company deserves my undivided attention. i'm going to try and limit my social networking to specific times just to "check in", the reason for that is i know the life stories of people i barely know because of social networking and not enough about those i'm closest with. keep my cell phone on silent while working on projects so that i can give whatever it is i'm doing my undivided attention. the beauty of a cell phone is regardless how long i go without looking at it i'll never miss anything because all my messages and alerts will be there waiting for me when i get back.
  2. start new traditions. life changes and that's not always easy to accept, with those changes you realize certain things aren't like they used to be. after a few years of trying to recreate certain memories and traditions i'm going to start new ones with the ones i love. change is ok.
  3. live what i love! i already started this one and it feels amazing. yes, work is important (it pays the bills) but what good is all that money if you're unhappy?! i will continue to find the balance between work and living and never forget that my life, happiness, health, and family come first. i will continue to write because it is my happy place and not only does it make me happy but it makes those around me happy. but hell if i can make money from writing i'm sure as hell going to push that too!
  4. credit counts. when i was a silly college girl i took out a few cards for "the love of my life" aka the biggest ass i've ever dated and well when we broke up he took the goodies and i was stuck with the bills. being stupid and naive i decided "it's not my stuff, it's his, i'm not paying" bad move! now in my late 20s that stupid decision is still haunting me so it's time to bite the bullet and fix that credit. i'll have to trade in some nights out and give up my light hair for low maintenance dark hair but it's okay because once i'm done i'll have financial freedom that will be worth it! i don't ever want to hear my credit isn't good enough, or that it's holding me back, or that i need someone to sign for me. f that i'm signing for myself!
  5. listen. i love talking (obviously) but i don't listen as much as i speak. yes, i pay attention and get all the details people share with me because i hear them, i care, and i absorb it all in...but i don't listen. i am the queen of finishing someones sentence because i really do pay attention so i know what they're going to say but that's not nice, everyone deserves the chance to talk. also, for my personal life listening a little would help avoid some arguments with my boyfriend, sister, and mom. i'm not saying i'm going to agree but i'll listen!

I wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year! To all the New Year's scrooges: shut up! cheers!!
